Why MikroTik for a paid hotspot?
A captive portal redirects unauthenticated clients to a web page. On MikroTik, the Hotspot package handles this redirection. Combined with a central RADIUS server (the one run by MobileOnNet), you no longer need to create users by hand on every device.
The 4 essential capabilities
- RADIUS client — auth (1812) + accounting (1813) toward MobileOnNet.
- CoA / Disconnect-Request — automatic disconnect once the quota is exhausted.
- External redirect — to
https://www.mobileonnet.com/portal/your-zone. - Walled garden — allow the portal and payment flow through before login.
Simplified flow
Customer's phone → MikroTik WiFi → MobileOnNet portal → MoMo payment → RADIUS "Access-Accept" → Internet. At the end of the plan, MobileOnNet sends a CoA command to disconnect.
Technical documentation
The step-by-step procedure (SSID, RADIUS, Hotspot, login.html, NAT, troubleshooting, OpenVPN tunnel if the ISP filters UDP) is described in the MobileOnNet MikroTik configuration manual provided by DSS SAS.
Other brands (Omada, UniFi…) may work if RADIUS + CoA + external portal are genuinely supported — a CoA test remains mandatory before advertising them as "compatible."
We'll open a tenant space for you and validate the RADIUS connection.
